KKND2 Krossfire – how to play
The original game manual (a scan of the printed booklet): KKND2 Krossfire manual (PDF) – the backstory, all commands, and every building, tower, unit and constructible. (Its shortcuts on W, A, S and D are on Shift here: the plain keys scroll.) On this server it opens once you have entered the password on the start page.
Getting a game going
Host a new game on the start page and you are in KKND2's lobby. Your friends open the same page and click Join next to your game; they can join until you start, as long as one of KKND2's 8 player slots is free (CPU players take slots too).
| Empty player slot | click it (host) to add a CPU opponent (“Kaos mode”); click again to remove it |
| TEAM | your army: Survivors, Evolved or Series 9 |
| COLOUR, ALLY | your colour; the number of your alliance (same number = allies) |
| RUs, OIL AVAIL | starting resources (2000–15000) and how much oil each patch holds |
| MAX TECH, BUNKERS | highest tech level (1–5); tech bunkers with surprises on the map |
| FOG, VICTORY | fog of war / shroud; death match or allied victory |
| MAP, START POS | the battlefield; random or grouped (allies close together) starting positions |
| CHAT | click into the field, type, Enter |
| START | (host) begins the match for everyone |
After the match, or when you leave it with Esc → QUIT, the score screen takes you back to the lobby for a rematch. EXIT in the lobby returns to the start page.
Mouse
| Left click / drag | select units, or command the selection: move, attack (click an enemy) |
| Shift + left click | add units to the selection; with a selection: set waypoints |
| Ctrl + drag | also select tankers and buildings |
| Alt + click | force attack (a place or an ally) |
| Right click | deselect; on queued production: cancel one (Ctrl: all) |
| Right drag | fast scroll |
| Mouse at the edge | scroll the map |
Building and producing
Click a button in the sidebar, then place the building on the map (red: not possible there). Unit buttons queue production: each click one more, one more click after ten makes it infinite (Ctrl+click: infinite at once). A research lab upgrades buildings to higher tech levels, which unlocks more units, towers and walls.

Tips
- Alliances can also be made during the match: click the team logos in the toolbar.
- Constructibles: build your own vehicles from a chassis and “turrets” (weapons, armour, speed…), store the design on one of the blue buttons and produce it like any unit.
- Recycling a building refunds part of its cost; repair vehicles fix units in the field.
- Voice chat: everybody in a game can talk to each other. A small panel beside the game (or at its top right) lists who is in it; click Mic to talk (again to stop) and the speaker to mute the others. Headphones keep the game's sounds out of your microphone. Browsers only allow the microphone on HTTPS sites; over plain HTTP you can still listen.
- If KKND2's sync check ever finds that the players' games differ, for more than a few seconds, the page tells everyone (“Out of sync …”). Finish or restart that match.
